Strange Edison Standard on Ebay

What the heck is this thing? An Edison Standard with the old style, new decal case, an electric motor, and maroon bedplate and top works...

I have to think Frankenphone, but I can't remember having seen a Franken'd cylinder machine before...

I did something similar to this when I was a teenager!

...But I didn't repaint the Standard mechanism with maroon paint... :)

Maybe it was locked in a closet for the last 50-60 years with a Maroon Gem and this was the outcome.

I know they made a maroon Gem, but did they ever make any other machines with the topworks in any color other than black?

Yes, the early Amberolas. Some were maroon, some were brownish, depending on the model.
