these are one of my favorite machines and I have owned a few of them. You will enjoy yours in the collection. Each of mine had the same speed control. If it has a noisy motor it just means that it has been enjoyed often. Get a big horn, use big fat needles and you can't hear the motor! Here's my current one. Joe
