Interesting Triumph A w/ Wood Cygnet and w/ nice cabinet

Post by Schlick »

Talked to the seller, Richard, nice guy selling off his collection (zipchord, did you buy his Vic D?) in Santa Barbara.
SN.63951

Nice machine - wonder about the Banner on raised panel (mentioned here). He states it's and A
Nice horn. He says no decal and he only knows it was NOT refinished in the last 30 years.
O reproducer.
Nice cabinet!
~125-150 2&4 min records "Nothing pink, no gold mines!"

A nice complete set, IMHO. Just too far away (and no way I could hide it from my wife!)

With all respect to Richard (the seller), that's a Model B Triumph. Which throws into question the originality of that mechanism in that cabinet (and assuming the banner decal is original).

The first Triumphs to appear in the raised-panel cabinets like this were Model A mechanisms, leading modern-day collectors to refer to them as "A/B Triumphs." If the banner decal is original to the cabinet, the most obvious assumption would be "...last of the old decals on the new cabinet." But the Model B mechanism would suggest production of at least 5000 Triumphs since the introduction of the new cabinet. Something seems amiss.

Again, I'm curious to know the serial number on that mechanism. At least two red flags on the field... :)

Thanks for the serial number. That number is well beyond the range of "A/B" Triumphs, so if...IF that decal is original, it's virtually impossible that the machine originally came in that cabinet.

For me the only question now is if that decal is original. I'm betting against it, but I'd love to be proven wrong! :)

I like the record cabinet.
