It appears to have a sort-of plaster core?

The plaster core leads me to believe it's a Lambert cylinder made for the UK Edison Bell company. I have a pink one with a plaster core, but I've never seen a black one.

Jerry, This cylinder looks like a very late "Black Lambert" cylinder. Some Black Lambert Cylinders carried the same Patent date as the Albany Indestructible cylinders... That is because Albany Indestructibles used the same Lambert Patent! Black Lambert Cylinders were the follow up to Pink Lambert Cylinders.. and Black Lambert Cylinders eventually morphed into Albany Indestructibles..

Here is an earlier Black Lambert cylinder on ebay.. You can see the obvious family resemblance here to the Early Albany Indestructibles.

I would think that your very late Black Lambert cylinder was right before the changeover to Albany Indestructibles.. I also think that the earlier poster might be correct that it is a UK variant due to the unusual Plaster core.
