FOR SALE: Columbia Early Q Orig Nickle Horn Dealer Tag $750

Post by Crank_it_up »

Let me start by saying that you don't see a Columbia Q everyday priced at $750, but look at the pictures and you will see why. This is simply a stunning example of an early Q that somehow has survived in such incredible condition. Most collectors search for examples just like this. I probably have 100 pictures of this beauty so ask for any particulars and I will post them. The bedplate is just amazing and 100% Original. I could go on and on about its high points but the negatives are a much shorter list. So, on the downside, it barely plays through a 2 minute record but it will make it through. The lid has 2 scrapes on the front at about the 2 o'clock position that can be seen in a picture. There is no mandrel tag, I can't say it was sold with one, but it's not present. The nickel plating on the the lid components have been restored. Lastly, some purists might say that it shouldn't have a fancy winding key, but this is just how I found it and have no reason to doubt its originality. If the new owner is convinced it is wrong, original flat keys are always for sale somewhere it seems. The condition of the key matches the machine. The finish on the lid/base of early Q's is usually in green oak tint, but this one avoided the green dye vat somehow. The finish is 100% correct and original as is the decal and the very cool dealer tag, rarely seen on a Q. The optional nickel horn is the early variety where the bell is affixed with merely a tack solder, and has no seam. The bell is in near perfect shape. Where the bell is attached is not 100% square to the body, but just proves that humans built these things. The nickel is worn on the top side as can be seen in the pictures. I know that $750 sounds high and I will sell it without the horn with a $200 deduction. Suddenly a near mint early Q at $550 sounds good, and you could add a reproduction horn or one that you already have. I admit I love the horn and if I didn't have so many of them I wouldn't even offer it up. Shipping will be at the actual cost I pay and will be carefully and safely packed for an easy ride to the new owner. I will accept a check or Money Order as payment. Look at the pictures and feel free to comment. The price is firm. Thanks for looking. Joe Filer
