Herzog Barrel-Front Cabinet Aficionados - What am I missing?

Post by Garret »

Okay,

For those of you out there who are lucky enough to have barrel-front Herzog cabinets, especially the early one, I have a question. Below are two pictures, one showing two random cabinet pieces, and the other showing the bottom-right front corner of the cabinet. Can someone tell me what is supposed to be in that hole near the foot, and where these two loose pieces (with screw) should go? Pictures would be great - and a huge help!

OOh OOh, I know this one!

I don't have pictures handy as my cabinet is in pieces right now out in the shop.

I don't believe the screw is supposed to go through the hole.

One of the pieces goes in the hole above the right foot and acts as a plate for right side of the door (the side that opens) to sit on when it is closed.

The other should go in the corresponding hole above the left foot. The door has a lose pin that drops into this fitting holding the door in place and allowing it to pivot at this point. The pin is held in place with the screw that goes into a hole on the inside of the door rail just above this pin.

I can take a few pictures tomorrow if needed.

Hello Brad,

Thank you for the picture. It's a big help. If you don't mind me asking; could you post a picture of the screw with its length? The one that I have doesn't fit into that hole. A picture of the hole above the right foot with the respective piece in it would also be immensely appreciated.

Hi Garret,

See the pictures below. The veneer on the inside of the bottom of the cabinet is missing from my cabinet. There is just a little piece left right next to the strike plate above the right foot. I guess there could be a screw holding this thing in. My cabinet had shot reworked feet which I am replacing. Look down the hole above the right foot and see if you can see evidence of there being a screw being there.

The screw in the door is just under 1" in length and it looks very close to a #8 in size.

Let me know if you need more.

Garret,

Your rubber skid (broken in half) should fit into the hole above the right front foot, as shown in the photo below. Your screw may be slightly too large - - if so, substitute a smaller one. Good luck!
