RAE 68 and Thunderbird Fly-over

Post by Victrola-Monkey »

Just brought home my new RAE 68, was opening it up to clean it, and BOOM! In my head I was already hearing applause for obtaining such a beautiful and rare machine, but a fly-over by the USAF Thunderbirds, definitely more appropriate. Will post cabinet interior photos after I cleanup the internals and put back in today.

Actually Fort Lauderdale is having an air show this weekend and they were just practicing yesterday.

I know it's pretty exciting to get a new phono but to arrange a fly-over is amazing. Congratulations on your new treasure! :)

Even the weather looks super there!

Great machine.

Thanks y'all. Give me a couple of years to get to actually makin it work. The good news is everything seems to be here, minus a remote control (though I saw a remote slip thru my fingers on eBay recently). At least the electronics and mechanism for it are complete. Unlike my other RAE 68 where the receiver it has is missing just those parts and looks just like a receiver for a Radiola 86. Apparently the RAEs don't have a metal ID tag, nor serial number, just the paper stick-on. Interesting cause the other leftover Victor cabinets from the RCA purchase got metal tags, i.e. RE-154 (not sure about the RE-156).

Craigslist in Plymouth PA. I Was actually #2 reply to ad for $500. I told the seller I would pay them $250 to ask #1 buyer if they would sell it to me for $1000. Everyone agreed and it turned out to be a TMF member and friend. It was a win, win, win.

Your lucky it worked out for all involved. Schemes like this can cause a seller to rethink what it is that they actually have and cancel all activity and come back offering the item at a later date at a much higher price. If I were the #1 buyer and this happened, I would not be happy.

Wow! I'm glad to hear that it all worked out - and for what a machine! The stuff is definitely still out there! I can't wait to see a video or photos of the restored piece. Congrats!

Nice machine for sure but it was indeed a perfect weekend for an airshow. My son and I had a great time. He had VIP tix for us, close parking, free food, free beer, and the best seat in the house, err beach. It's no wonder I'm still in FL since I moved here after graduating high school. Love it here still after 43 years. Joe
