Is this a VV 7-3 or a variation?

This Victrola has a VV 7-3 plate...but according to the Data books, it should be a radio/phono model. But this is clearly just the phono. Not nearly the 35" width cabinet as listed in the data book. I checked for variations and found none. Messaged the seller, and thought Id ask around here as well.

It looks like HALF of a 7-3. I'm not sure whats going on there...maybe someone cut the two sections, threw out the radio section (and half of the cabinet) and used the end pieces to make a pretty good looking mini 7-3. There seems to be some tell tale signs of woodwork on the left side of the motor board area, and left side of the cabinet towards the bottom. And also the cut out area where the lid support for the radio side should be. (indentation on the left inside part)

It should sound about the same as a VV 4-7. It is still a nice looking machine, so whoever did the work did pretty well.

I had a chance to buy one of these in person and I really regret not doing it!

Now that you mention it I see the wood on the left looking like it was transplanted. So this actually had a radio that worked off a battery? Amazing..what type of battery replacement would work with this off todays shelf?

I have two of those things upstairs, and it should have a Radiola 20 on the left hand side. You would need to get a battery eliminator if you were going to use the radio. I need to put the one I have that's complete back together now that it's been refinished. I think $200 is kind of high for one of those things (Probably a lot high in today's market). I'm actually kind of curious about how good the radio sounds though it as they use a diaphragm in the horn driver that's the same as the orthophonic reproducer. They must have been good sellers up in Minneapolis as they seem to turn up a couple of times a year up there.
