Actually, there is a nice, little write up on Ira D.Sankey (booklet like this pictured) in the Paul/Fabrizio book 'Antique Phonograph Accessories & Contraptions' page 78.

Some years ago the Word label had an LP called "Yesterday's Voices" which was narrated by Paul Harvey. It was of recordings of several Christian evangelical figures. One of the selections on the LP was a brown cylinder recording of Ira Sankey singing "God Be With You" dating from 1899.That was one of the Biglow and Main records.I didn't know Montgomery Ward sold them. They would have also been sold by the Biglow and Main music publishing house.edisonplayer

Thank you. I will find that version of the "bible".

I'm not familiar with the actual publication or its rarity/value, so I can't comment on the price.

However, if you are bothered by the word "copy", in this case, it should probably be interpreted as meaning "example", not "reproduction".

Here is a picture of 15 Biglow & Main brown wax cylinders I found in 2013. They are all songs of Ira D. Sankey. These are extremely rare cylinders.

Ira Allen Sankey, son of Ira Sankey, studied civil engineering and architecture at Princeton University, graduating in 1897. In 1898, he became president of the Biglow & Main music publishers in New York City. He also served as vice-president of the Leeds and Catlin Phonograph Company, and on the Advisory Board of the Greenich Bank.

There is a CD of Ira D. Sankey's songs available at Tinfoil.com at this link.
