Re: Recommendations for Bedplate striping technique
I use the Pen Touch .7mm pen for touching up worn striping on bedplates. It works wonderfully since you can just trace over old/ worn pin striping to make it look as good as new again. If you screw up or decide to go back to how it was originally, just add some non pumice goop and wipe it off. Totally reversible, but keeps your machine looking brand new when you want it to
If you want to completely redo the bedplate then just finish your striping with clear or amber shellac. Although it does work great for straight lines the flower tufts and other decorations can be hard to replicate, but it is possible. Search for "ruling pen" instead of "engineers pen."benjaminh wrote:I would like to know where you can purchase the "engineers pen" as described in Eric Reiss's book; I haven't been able to find it any where.

Drafting sets include them. Franbenjaminh wrote:This is an old topic, and I've since purchased the decals from Gregg Cline, which are great. However, I would like to know where you can purchase the "engineers pen" as described in Eric Reiss's book; I haven't been able to find it any where.

Thanks everyone; ruling pen seems to be the correct term, lots of matches with that, thanks!

I have just used a gold paint pen with much success. I just set up a ruler as a guide, or run my finger along the bed plate.
Here is an interesting method I found; but, the tool is expensive. You can find them pretty cheap on Ebay occasionally.

They even have a video of a man striping a repainted "safe" with gold striping.
