My First Talking Doll Motor Repair

Post by CDBPDX »

Just finished fixing a 1930's talking doll motor. Pretty cool! This is the doll cousin of the Mae Starr doll, same mechanism, just a different doll.

Watch it running on YouTube:

My wife is a doll collector, so I've worked on several of these. They are a really neat piece of design work, pretty much indestructible, and reliable. Cleaning and lubrication was always the issue with the ones I did.

Pretty much that was the issue with this motor, too. That and a wee turn of the shaft adjust screw and it runs great. Amazing and simple piece of engineering. Cliff
