What model Victor is this, a 410?
Any one recognize this? Judging by the legs and feet, seems to be some sort of japanned William & Mary inspired design. Cabinets seems to be in very good shape--too good. If manual goes with this model, then I guess it is a VV-410.

It's not a 410. Those have claw an ball legs. It's interesting, but looks pretty big.

I usually poke around before I post anything. So, yeah, read that too on the Victor-Victrola website. That's why I questioned the manual. The hardware should be gold plated and looks like it may be. Perhaps someone recased a 410? To me, the cabinet looks just too new and shiny for something from the 1920s. But really don't know.

If they took a picture showing the horn, that would tell a little more I think. It doesn't look old to me either. The lacquer would be oxidized some after all these years and it wouldn't polish up like that even if you put a clear coat over the old. It looks more like it has cedar chest legs under it to me, or legs from a late 20's radio of some sort.

The legs are from a 405. It looks like a custom built case from a good cabinet shop

I'm flip-flopping. Note the underside of the lid in the second photo. One can see the Victrola logo, which would mean the lid is original. Since the lid is the central component to the top of the cabinet, this suggests the entire top is original to the cabinet, from which one may (possibly) conclude the entire piece is original. Without seeing it, I guess one could speculate endlessly.

I'm pretty certain that under the lid is decorated, but it doesn't look at all like a "Victrola" decal is where one would be if it was a genuine Victor product. I vote for aftermarket cabinet using various Victor hardware. The door pulls are from a machine like a 330. Also notice the speed control / indicator isn't lined up with the turntable rim like a true Victor manufactured one would be.
I would love to see better photos of this, it certainly is interesting, to say the least.

Re: What model Victor is this, a 410?
Victor did turn out custom models for well-healed clients, and these included special "Japanese Lacquered" finishes. Most I’ve seen pictures of also had painted finishes inside the record compartment and on the lid though. See page 75 of Phonographs with Flair: A Century of Style in Sound Reproduction, foe example. And of course some high-end cabinet making firms made them as well. From the pictures it looks like this is very well done, although a careful personal inspection would be necessary to tell for sure. It might be a real treasurer if it proves out. Are the pictures hand painted or decals? Is the gilding crisp with smooth edges or amateurishly applied paint? Is there some patina to the finish, etc., etc.

Is this the same machine that is part of an estate sale in Mannassas, Va?
