what does bump mean

Post by tomb »

In the Yankee trader section I see the term BUMP used mostly after a item for sale. What is the meaning?? Thanks Tom

Posting a reply "bumps" the message back up to the top of the section, where it is more likely to be read.

Exactly: nothing to do with the condition of the gramophone or with the sale (except that it usually implies that the item is still unsold ;) ).

I had always thought it means...

...and have tried to act accordingly.

In Internet "SPEAK".... "BUMP" means to PUSH or FORWARD something (An e-mail, a subject, or a post) to someone else or a group. IT can also mean a "REPEAT" of something that has already been previously posted..meaning that it is just a "REPEAT" of the same prior posting..

Though you should know...

I think it is one of the noises a machine makes when the spring needs serviced. :D

That has almost cleared it up I thought it might be a bump in a record which I have several or a bump in the road ruining my tires. It almost looks like we have a good bump or a bad bump depending where the bump is applied. Did I hear that Edison said to bump or not to bump.. that is the question??? Maybe the bump should ride off into the sunset>>> Tom B
