FellowCollector,

I suggested this due to the pricing issues raised earlier by Benjamin. Buy one like this unit, at abot half the cost, and upgrade later with the accessories that you have just described.

Looking for options :ugeek:

Thanks Bob for the suggestion; I hadn't consider that as an option.

Nice to see young people involved in the hobby. Just curious, how old are you Ben? Might be able to help you out with a machine.

Actually, I think you would be better off to hold out for the one you want, especially with regards to the 2 & 4 minute capability, horizontal carriage and O reproducer. It's often easier and cheaper to buy one equipped the way you want than to try to find the appropriate parts later. The bedplate finish and striping and the condition of the nickel plating is a lot more important than the cabinet finish if it comes to that because refinishing the cabinet is a lot easier than redoing the bedplate or the nickel. A model D or D2 is a good one to look for because they were 2/4 machines to begin with and are often found with horizontal carriage conversions and O reproducers. As someone else mentioned, Triumph Bs are common and many were converted to 2/4 min. If you buy a B, make sure it has been converted to 2/4 operation because the cost of the conversion kit will add significantly to the cost of the machine.
If you really want a Triumph, hold off from buying lesser stuff just because you find it and save the money you would have spent toward what you really want. Be very ca about what you buy. There are a lot of them out there.

Good luck, Jim

Thanks for the advice Jim. I've noticed that, especially in regards to the O reproducer, it's usually far cheaper to buy it with the machine than separately. If I don't find anything right now, I'm planning on just waiting a while till I have a bit more cash on hand.

Good choice. BTW: what state do you live in? Perhaps one of us is close enough that we could be of help to you. I'm sure many of us would be willing to help you get a solid start in the hobby.

Hi Jim,
I'm actually Canadian, and live in south western British Columbia. I have a U.S. P.O. Box, so that's where I get US purchases shipped. I really do appreciate all the helpfulness of forum members assisting the newer/younger collectors!
