How many plays on a winding Early VV-IV and VV-VI
How many plays should one get per winding on the early VV-IV and VV-VI?

With Victor machines I get close to 5 minutes play per spring, which means in reality you have to nearly fully wind a VV-IV for every side, while you can play two sides per wind on a VV-VI. Just my experience. This is with 100 year old springs, it could be slightly better with new springs.

My post-1920 VV-IV will play one 12" record on a full winding. I've had earlier types and they all had similar runtimes. I have this particular VV-IV because it is as close as I can come to my first machine, acquired when I was about eight years old (ca.1953) but sadly has been long gone for many years now.
