Hey All --
I'm one of those folks who tries to get his records in the proper sleeves/boxes, etc. I've got an extensive Blue Amberol collection now and am working to get the boxes and lids right for each record. I know there's the variable of some records being popular for many years and coming out in different styles of boxes/lids than they had originally been released in. Still, I think it a good rule of thumb to try to match titles with the original style boxes.
I've noticed that there are at least two different kinds of orange Blue Amberol boxes. One has a photo of Edison on the "reverse" and is short; the other is without the photo and is longer (see attached). I'm assuming the shorter one is of earlier date and the tall one later. I know they changed the style of lid in 1923: from a blue rim to a tan one (this is totally different from the style of label, which changed in 1920). Perhaps 1923 was the time they went from the shorter boxes to the taller as well?
Please advise. Thanks!
Ralph

Actually I have even seen a box variation with a sketched Edison as well. I will have to look through my collection to find one. Also Edison's picture on some are the black and white, and others are more of a Sepia tone.

I believe that there were actually 5 different variations of the Orange boxes from 1917 to 1927..

Re: Edison orange Blue Amberol boxes
Tony, THANKS!!! Wow, this is interesting. Even though I now have a lot of those orange boxes, I don't have any examples of the ones where Edison's portrait is sketched.NEFaurora wrote:"I've noticed that there are at least two different kinds of orange Blue Amberol boxes."

I now know which boxes are older than the others; what the sequence is. Great fun--and thanks again!
