Here are two examples in Japan. You can translate the page through google.
I'll try and load a few pictures of mine soon.

Re: E M G mk IV
Thank you Chunny ,
Very interesting comparisons . The later one in Modern cabinet also does have a frame around the horn opening but decorated with the horn finish .
The mahogany one is more the age of mine maybe a little newer .Interesting to note the auto brake . Being a woodworker I was fascinated by the door construction and design .
Also it appears to be veneered solid timber .,. The veneer to the sides being "Cross grain"for effect, is laid opposite to the actual grain in the solid piece underneath . A little risky and as can be seen the veneer has torn with movement of the substrate.
I look forward to seeing your pictures .
I have three holes on the deck of mine forward and to the right of the tonearm..I initially thought a pickup? but they are in a triangle shape and less than an inch apart equally ...
I wonder what was screwed there ?

The second one has always intrigued me. Even the metal logo seems unique to that IV. Has anyone else seen that logo?.

Yes interesting .
There are no others ,No soundbox warning . But if you look at the deck in front of that one in the larger picture it looks like there was another of same size with has been removed !

Re: E M G mk IV
I managed to do some soundbox work yesterday .
There will be no time this weekend to clean up and grease the IV .But at least I rebuilt its soundbox, the Xa soundbox and the Mica VIII box too .
I have taken a picture of under the IV which shows the horn and motor exposed .The motor is Garrard .
I did the IV soundbox first. It went well and no problems. I managed to leave the springs as adjusted and so haven't even moved the screws on them . There were little oblong rubber pads between the front and back of the box . I replaced these by using cut off rubber tube and also made the rubber washer behind the screw heads the same way .
It appears to sound very good .
The Xa box was similarly tacked and now sounds lovely ,very pleased with that outcome .
The Mica box was more tricky .I had already attempted to replace the damaged mica a month or so ago,but as I had been sent the wrong size mica I stupidly attempted to cut it to size and that didn't work .so with a new mica I again rebuilt it . I had trouble getting the mica not to touch the sides of the case ,By which time I had stripped the threads to the tiny screw fixing in the stylus bar ! I had been careful before with it but this time I had trouble and screwed and un screwed it too many times..Not good ,very annoying.Anyway I sealed it both sides with wax and at the moment at least it is working very well .
Im not sure as the hole is tiny whether it can be repaired ?
I am now on the look out for a suitable stand to put the IV on ,not too high .I found an antique luggage stand for the Xa In oak which looks nice .

Re: E M G mk IV
I have come to the conclusion that the Swing back to the tonearm is deliberate on the Xa ..Its too strong to be not so .
There is no warning sign to do with closing lid on soundbox and when it has swung back it closes safely with soundbox up .Not so at end position , but it always swings back .
There appears no detrimental effect to fibre /thorn needle wear at all due to this .The machine behaves as all the others do .
