Hello all, I spotted this one local to me, though it looks like it might be missing the legs. Pass on this one?
Thanks

Re: Victrola VV8-4 Craigslist
I personally like the 8-4, but this one has no legs, at least one broken spring, and very incorrect knobs. On the other hand, it has a decent finish and the tonearm support appears to be intact.
The odds of you finding the legs are near zero, but if you can build a support for this yourself, you can have a nice "mini-Credenza" for not a lot of money.

Not to mention the orthophonic reproducer. If it is good, it is worth the asking price. Only way to know it it is good is to go and see.

Thanks, I'll probably look at it tomorrow if not Sat. Anything else to look for?

Errr, umm, that's like on the other side of the country.

You're the guy that has to answer that question. If you can live with the drawbacks and enjoy the satisfaction of saving the machine, go for it. If, every time you walk by and think about missing or replacement legs, pass on it. Definitely pass if you intend to sell it in the near future. It will always be a tough sell. My opinion... Jerry BlaisPass on this one?

Make a low offer. If you get it, great. If you don't, you won't look back with regret.

Jerry's advice is good. Given the condition and size of the machine, I would pass and keep searching.

Quite so. Yet there may be others on this side of the Rockies pining for a similar legless project.Dwheels wrote:Thanks, I'll probably look at it tomorrow if not Sat. Anything else to look for?

Re: Victrola VV8-4 Craigslist
Thanks again. When I get my first phonograph that plays 78's, I don't plan on selling it
I might still go look at it, since it's in a store as far as I can tell.
Though I spotted this Brunswick. Is the panatrope pretty much the same as an ortophonic?
