Victor accompanying furniture

Post by 78recordpicker »

I picked up a very nice Victor VI today, great sound from reproducer, all original. For now i placed it on an end table and it seems way too low. So what did Victor owners put their phonographs on 100 years ago? A library table? Was their special furniture made by Victor or secondary manufactures to display the phonographs? What were the brand names?

Is this a Victor VI or a Victrola VI you picked up..??. There were matching cabinets offered for all the Victor models. Price and rarity will depend on my initial question.

I had one on a 19 or 20 inch antique round table. Table was $50.00 I also found like a heavy duty antique wood magazine holder that was in a V for the records It held four albums. It was a half way nice set and not too expensive. I located them on Craig list. For my VV IV the smaller one I used one of those oak old fashion ice boxes. It was like an end table but it also held records inside. Tom B

There are very nice and relatively inexpensive disc record cabinets available that mimic the look of an upright Victrola. The one in the pictures below I bought here on the forum from estott. Fits great, even though a VV-VIII would probably be perfect on it.

Thanks! Know I have a better idea of how to display it. Just one more question - are the accompanying display cabinets made by Victor marked? I will look for the mark then for anything that looks like one of these oak cabinets.

I have my Victor IV on a fern stand - it's the perfect height for cranking and changing needles.

Most of these cabinets are aftermarket, so no Victor markings.
