The Next Berlin Cylinder.....What will it be?

Post by Victrolacollector »

I am always excited at the cylinder releases by Norman at Berlin Phonograph Works. I am just wondering what the next one will be?

A double 4 min cylinder set of the Beatles' Revolution 9 gets my vote.

People wouldn't expect to hear The Beatles on an Edison cylinder phonograph.I have a friend who has a Gem Roller Organ.I was surprised that you can get new tunes for them.He wants to get "Ob-Lah-De-Ob-La -Dah" by The Beatles for it.edisonplayer

I'm with you on that. I have a concert roller organ, when I was ordering new rollers, I saw the Beatles and a few newer songs. I passed on them. I have mostly what would have been original titles like The Entertainer, Grand Old Flag etc. I do have a copy of Linus and Lucy theme which sounds good on the roller organ plus Star Wars theme. But I pass on newer songs.

You had better grab the newer songs. :D

The "new" newer songs are not even songs. It's funny how we have evolved from German Lieder and Schubert songs to songs where the "song" is the refrain of the song to just the refrain and then to the "rock 'n roll" and Beatles type songs and now the ubiquitous Rap (songs?) music. :o

What's next? I predict the next generation of "songs" will be commercial messages.

But what do I know? :monkey:

Alright, alright, I'll solve the mystery. ;)

I have a first approved sample here, the stock is now in production. Regardless of taste, Beatles would be quite a challenge to obtain license for. But if a recording is older than 70 years it is quite doable for me to do the proper paperwork and paying royalties.

Ooh, a good one by Ermine Calloway! Are you going to have this ready for Wayne in October? I'll put in a reservation for a copy if so!

I don't know if it is public domain, but the song "Puttin' on the Ritz" by Leo Reisman is also a good title.
