Ireland Sept 13 - TV Show Penny Dreadful Standard A

Post by stevenhman »

HERO LOT: AN EARLY 20TH CENTURY EDISON STANDARD PHONOGRAPH in an oak case with banner decal and black Japanned horn, together with a quantity of cylinder props. (Dorian's, together with the silver coloured horn used in filming).

The horn looks a bit less cheesy photographed for the series:

That's a new one... a Crap-O-Phone horn on an Edison cylinder machine...

Me thinks someone is totally lost on Edison's. There is a 14 inch repro horn sitting behind it in the picture. It is an auction for the Edison with a bonus crapola horn throne in .. Lucky buyer..... I wonder if it plays ??? Probably falls off.. It looks like it was duck taped on. Not a bad looking machine thou . Tom B

The props are not as out of period as those in "Murdoch Mysteries" set in Toronto in 1899/1900.

The lady pathologist has a Diamond Disc machine in her path lab, and a recent episode featured an Amberola 30 with the lid removed, presumably to make it look older. Murdoch and Alexander Graham Bell listened intently to this machine, despite the fact that there was no cylinder on the mandrel

Who needs cylinders when they already had thumb drives with MP3s back then...
