The same reason as $135K for a Multiphone.

Well, I don't know about you guys, but I don't care about having a rare record box.
If the box contains a rare record, that's a different thing 8-)

but the record/cylinder box sold, the multiphone didn't... right? are some cylinder cases really worth this much to some people?

The surprising answer is yes. Three individuals submitted bids over $1,000.

I read a post somewhere that said that the Multiphone did sell for $135K.

I read that too on the victrolagramophones board, but I thing the person who wrote it may have been mistaken - at least, it didn't sell through ebay, the auction page appears to indicate that there were no bidders.
