WANTED: Someone in Cleveland area to pick up Edison Home.
I'm looking for someone in the Cleveland area to pick up an Edison Home phonograph. It is just the phonograph, not the horn. All you need to do is take it to the nearest FedEx and tell them to pack it and ship it to me via Ground in California. I will pay you for your trouble of course. You would not need to pay FedEx because I will give you my FedEx account number. Please PM me if interested. Thanks, Marc.

To safely ship a Home, one absolutely needs to remove the mechanism from the case! So factor that into the equation as well...

Email sent.
There is actually a completely safe and effective way to ship machines without removing the mechanism. I've shipped probably 75 cylinder phonographs all over the world using a particular method that reinforces, stabilizes and cushions machines above and beyond what is necessary for safe regular transport.

Please share it on the forum so the rest of us can benefit from it. In the meantime I'm guessing there are way more than 75 shattered Edison cases...from eBay sellers who don't know any better.

I'm not sure if this is what Jake is speaking of, but I've safely shipped multiple phonographs with this method. All that you need to do, is brace the phonograph in the case, so there is no weight that is unequally spread. I lift the motor, and pack the case with paper, leaving approximate indentations for the larger parts of the motor. The case needs to be full enough that it can barely close. Then the lid is packed with paper in a similar manner, so it can just barely fit on. I then usually wrap the whole case in plastic wrap. It's then put in a properly cushioned box, which is put inside another box, with about 2"+ of padding all around. Never had a problem using this method.
If you are just planning on dropping it off for FedEx to pack, though, it would definetely be a good idea to seperate the mechanism and case.
