At least on Ebay you can get in contact with the seller and there are records.
On Craigslist it's your word against his, and buyer beware.

Same thing just happened to me a couple of weeks ago. There's no recourse other than leaving them GLOWING feedback 7 days after the fact.

Well if you still feel like dealing with him in a month or so it might come down to that price. $2200 is a pretty fair price for a schoolhouse in today's market.
