WANTED: Edison B-19

Post by benjaminh »

I'm looking for an Edison DD B-19. Condition can be anywhere from downright awful (mechanics mainly there, though) to really nice. Let me know what you have.

I've seen that one on eBay, but it's local pickup only, and it's restored. If I'm going to end up with a restored one, I'd prefer doing it myself.

I checked your profile and your location is not mentioned. Since shipping is very expensive you might have better results if you gave your area or a general area that you are willing to drive to pick up a B-19. Jerry Blais

Jerry, I'm Canadian, but have a package holder in Sumas, WA, 98295. Driving isn't an option for me, since I'm too young. Shipping would be a necessity, unless there's something this side of the border, or someone can drop it off in Sumas.

Hi Benjamin,

I would never want to discourage anyone in our hobby but you may want to broaden your search to a variety of other DD models. That way you might find something interesting closer to your home and hopefully avoid hundreds of dollars in shipping. Jerry Blais

Jerry, if the shipping amounts to hundreds, plural, of dollars, I'll have too wait on this one until I can drive. I wouldn't think that a tabletop, large as it may be, would cost that much. I would actually prefer an upright model, but I simply don't have room for one at this point. That being the case, I figured that a B-19 would be my best bet.

In the last year I've mailed smaller machines like Edison Standards around the US for around $75. I would imagine the cost of shipping a much larger machine like a B-19 to be much more. You must pack with two inches of packing material in all directions to qualify for any successful insurance claim. Your phono dollars might go farther if you check your local craigslist for a Diamond Disc machine. I wish you nothing but success in your search. Jerry Blais

Thanks Jerry, I would definetely use my Craigslist, but in nothing ever comes up on it for some reason. I guess this part of the globe is pretty phonograph free.
