Depends what selections are on them. I have soft spot for the orchestral offerings from Victor prior to electrical recording. - bill

John McCormack is one of my favourite singers and recorded extensively on this format. The Victor/Victrola surfaces are superior to the HMV pressings which have a higher percentage of abrasive material in the mix.

In Romophone's superlative John McCormack CD issues, Ward Marston mastered nearly every side from Victor pressings, with a few HMV here and there.
I actually think that the 12" Red Seal records on the whole may contain more music that interests me.
Less of the common songs the likes of which were issued on other label Victor. Old Folks At Home and stuff like that.
But the 10" are perfectly jolly. I always sift through them If I come across some.

I too enjoy the classical records as many of the things I have posted are for the Edison. I had a very large collection of red and black label classics which I downsized about 8 years ago. However I still have many of the peices I liked the best. I find that the black label records often are as good as the red seal if not better in some instances. The orthophonic versions come to mind as one where the black label Victor Orchestra has some very fine impressive sound as compared to some of the Red Seals which can be raspy. I assume its due to the recording studio or hall more than likely? I would never pass up a piece because its on a smaller record.

I've had the orthophonic black label Peer Gynt part 1 and 2 forever (Bourdon, Victor Orch) on 12 inch, and just recently saw part 3 and 4 online. Rec'd it last week and was surprised it's on a 10 inch disc!

If it wasn't for a Maud Powell Red Seal, I wouldn't have gotten into this hobby.
