Columbia q style governor gear?

Hi everyone. I have had for some years now which I believe to be a thorns cylinser phonograph. Like many cheaper machines they tried to copy the Columbia Q design. This one I have has a nylon gear on the governor which is badly broken. Did they have nylon back then? To me it seems a modern invention. Are replacements gears available? I could fabricate something. Just wondered if it is normal to be what I think is nylon originally? The machine is in my attic right now but if any pictures are required I can get it down.

If you have the damaged part you could try taking it to a local clock repair store ,explain to them what you want and ask them what would be an estimate of the price.

I did it at my local clock store and them fabricated a new gear for me this was for a gear on a Pathé phonograph.

What does the gear look like? The gears were a fiber type, not nylon. If you can post a picture, I can give you a better assessment.
