I don't think that price is over the top for one of these models, especially in mahogany, and in reasonably good condition. Pity the lid stay has been put on the wrong way round, but that's easy to fix. I've bid for several on auction sites, and they have all gone over the £200 mark.

with all due respect look around for a bit and you could get one for around the £100 mark

the hmv 130 is one of the best table tops out there.this one does not look in bad condition,although its had its grill cloth replaced.the thing that stands out with this one is,it's in mahogany and you don't see to many of these about.i have one in oak all original that i picked up for £100 10 years ago,and if i wanted this model i would pay £250-£300 no problem.

I sold my 130 a couple of months ago. Mine was in similar condition, and also had a replacement cloth. But I had a hard time selling it. I mailed some pictures to a local dealer, but he wasn't even interested in making an offer. The problem is (I think) while they are reliable machines with a good sound, they don't look rather plain and simple. They're not really eyecatchers. In the end I sold it for 200 euros (about GBP 150) and I had to throw in 30 78's plus a tin with 200 steel needles.

Looking over the site's main "for sale" page -- http://www.windupgram.co.uk/forsale.htm -- the prices are about on par with what I've seen in the US (California) market over the past several years. The last common black 101 I spotted in San Francisco was priced around $375, and I understand it sold for that price. Granted, the seller stated that it was ready to play; completely refurbished.

One item caught my eye -- http://www.windupgram.co.uk/back.htm -- which might be useful for someone who wants to repair a #5a/#5b/#4 sound box with a bad back. (The sound box, not the person.... )

Nobody was holding a gun to my head, of course. But I listed in on Ebay for EUR 200 without the needles and records, and after two months it still hadn't sold. I then put it on Marktplaats (the Dutch version of Craigslist) and all I got was ridiculously low offers (50 euro, 75 euro). So then I decided to throw in some 78's I had lying around. Of course these were not pristine copies, mostly around V+ and nothing hot or rare, just standard dance band stuff. And finally it sold, so I could use the funds (and the space) for an HMV 163.
