Re: Edison Idelia (Really!) On ShopGoodwill
I guess I was wondering who, in their right mind, would donate a $20,000+ machine to Goodwill - a for profit corporation funded by freebies...? I could almost understand it if it was a worthwhile charity auction, but then we're faced with the question of what charities are actually worthwhile...? I think if the owner of Goodwill had any scruples, he would at least try to track down the donor and share the profit..

Non-profit my a$$... (maybe, technically registered that way, but a LONG way from a real charity)Garret wrote:Goodwill is a registered non-profit.Curt A wrote:I guess I was wondering who, in their right mind, would donate a $20,000+ machine to Goodwill - a for profit corporation funded by freebies...? Goodwill is paying some of its disabled workers just 22 cents an hour, while the charity’s executives make six figure salaries. A labor law loophole enables the practice.
As some workers were making as little as 22 cents per hour in 2011, Goodwill International CEO Jim Gibbons made $729,000 in salary and deferred compensation. The CEOs of Goodwill franchises across the country collectively earned about $30 million, according to NBC.

Unfortunately, the current laws are favorable for using a 501C3 non-profit for personal gain. With only a small percentage required for charitable contribution.

Wow. That's really too bad. I haven't been to a Goodwill store in years...the only thrift stores close to me are owned by the Salvation Army and a local hospital auxiliary.Curt A wrote:Non-profit my a$$...
