Is there a way to play Pathé records on a Victor III?
I heard of a special adapter reproducer that fits on a Victor III that will allow it to play vertical records like a Pathé. Does anyone know the name of that reproducer? Thanks, Marc.

I have one still in the original box that was actually made by Pathé in France. It'll fit any tapering arm machine and it's an assembly that replaces the "U" tube on your tone arm. It even comes with a little screw on cover to protect the jewel. I have an Edison stylus for it as well but I need to replace the reproducer gaskets.marcapra wrote:I heard of a special adapter reproducer that fits on a Victor III that will allow it to play vertical records like a Pathé. I'll dig it out and post pics if you'd like. I've never seen another one!

It's called the Pathé "Universal". Here's a few pics of one I sold to a forum member not long ago.

If you are going to fit one of these to a goose-neck tonearm, make sure that the machine is absolutely level, otherwise you may find the reproducer skating across the record. This particularly affects centre start records, especially those of small diameter, where centrifugal force is already sending the reproducer outwards.

A friend of mine has one of these things he asked me to sell for him a few months ago and I just haven't gotten around to it. I've just had too many irons in the fire and I also have an extra stylus that I was going to put with it that I found in a needle cup. I haven't hunted that thing up yet.
This thing seems to work ok too, but I've never owned a Pathé, so I'm not sure how much better they would sound playing the same record. But I would guess these things show up on ebay as well now and again, but I don't know who made them. Lots of odd accessories out there for this stuff, that's for sure.

"the Victrola guy" has a youtube video where he makes an adapter with a copper ½" plumbing elbow and a short piece of copper pipe. I tried it and it works well. All you need are the copper pieces and a Pathé stylus.

I purchased this adaptor from a French seller on ebay a couple of years ago. It works on most Pathés. Here it is on my Victor III. I simply slide off the Exhibition reproducer and the Pathé adaptor slides onto the sleeve. There are markings to aid in alignment.

I think that is Hughes Stylus. A friend of mine gets excellent results from it.Marco Gilardetti wrote:It's called Hustylus.EarlH wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXQkzvPDXMA

For those adapters to work, besides leveling the turntable as mentioned, you need to add some weight to them, otherwise they will skid over the discs, especially the older etched label Pathés.Dave wrote:It's called the Pathé "Universal".
