My adapter, pictured above, will not play the older etched centre-start discs at all. Because of its shape, it's next to impossible to balance any weight on it. Mostly I use my Brunswick to play Pathés. The sound is much better and the weight is easily adjusted.

A friend of mine has one of these things he asked me to sell for him a few months ago and I just haven't gotten around to it. I've just had too many irons in the fire and I also have an extra stylus that I was going to put with it that I found in a needle cup. I haven't hunted that thing up yet.

This thing seems to work ok too, but I've never owned a Pathé, so I'm not sure how much better they would sound playing the same record. But I would guess these things show up on ebay as well now and again, but I don't know who made them. Lots of odd accessories out there for this stuff, that's for sure.
It's called Hustylus.
I think that is Hughes Stylus. A friend of mine gets excellent results from it.
It was possibly made by someone named "Hughes", but the name of the object is Hustylus.

I agree, the Brunswick is much better than the Pathé adapter. What I did in my adapter was to add a metal disc between the rubber ring and the back tube, and with that it could play the older discs. But I only used it a couple of times out of curiosity to hear how a Pathé disc sounds on a HMV machine. Normally I like to play the Pathés in the Pathé players.

I've heard that Pathé machines don't track as well and, therefore, don't sound as well and are less kind to the record as Brunswicks.

I have one still in the original box that was actually made by Pathé in France. It'll fit any tapering arm machine and it's an assembly that replaces the "U" tube on your tone arm. It even comes with a little screw on cover to protect the jewel. I have an Edison stylus for it as well but I need to replace the reproducer gaskets.

I'll dig it out and post pics if you'd like. I've never seen another one!
I think I have the same one you speak of (came with a nice red cylindrical box even). I personally love it (I have a Hughes Stylist too, but don't care for it as much).

This isn't my video, but it does show the adaptor. I'll try to get around and take picture of mine later.

Yes, that's it! Mine doesn't have a logo under the diaphragm or on the box, though. I need to dig it out and get pics.
