Edison Idelia (Really!) On ShopGoodwill (It's Back..)

It would cost a fortune to ship it. The $43.00 with $10.00 handling fee will be a miracle if it gets in one piece. The Idelia is a large, heavy delicate machine. I shipped a carefully packed Triumph (without horn and crane) for $100.00. It was bullet-proof packing in 2 boxes.

Wow! It is sad that the the person who donated it was not knowledgeable about the value. I suppose it was some young guy that thought it was junk. I am not sure what an Idelia is worth or how rare they are but they don't turn up often. I can't even afford a Triumph. The most expensive Edison cylinder machine I own is the Edison Fireside

It's not a good time to be selling anything of value at auction. But conversely, it is a good time to buy. I won the Idealia for about $3k under my top bid, on behalf of an out-of-country client. He was extremely pleased, to say the least.

I haven't been to a Goodwill store in years...the only thrift stores close to me are owned by the Salvation Army and a local hospital auxiliary.

I look into my local Goodwill on occasion to pick up neckties & kitchen goods. It is clean, well lit, well stocked, and well run. The local Salvation Army is a depressing dump.

Hi Raphael,

Please instruct UPS on how to pack this machine...I trusted the local folks to pack and ship a music box for me a couple of years back and they absolutely destroyed it. I have since bought a couple of phonos and UPS paced them very well to arrive safely to me... I guess it really depends on who is packing the item..Congrats on winning a nice machine..

Three years ago I asked a seller to take an Edison Opera I bought from him to a UPS store to be professionally packed and double-boxed, then arranged for Fedex to pick it up and ship to me overnight (and bill to my account). I couldn't believe how pathetically shoddy the packing was. It is a miracle that it came through with only minor damage. These "professionals" did not put any packing material at all inside the motor compartment or top works. Nor did they tie anything down. They simply wrapped the machine in bubble wrap and tipped it onto its side and plunked it into the box. The reproducer and crank were tossed together into a ziplock bag with no padding at all.
