I agree, but, unfortunately, I missed it. Someone else beat me to them.

Wow, Well bought!

You'll never see a set of these at that price.

The buyer easily got a $300-$400 savings..

A Fully signed set by the author (Wendell Moore) of these goes for around $500-$550.00 - Market value

An unsigned set usually sells for around $375-$450.

The seller does not say whether the books he sold above were all signed or not, and whether they all came from the same numbered set..as ALL signed sets were numbered from Set #1 to Set #500.

Important Note: All Volume#1's Hardcovers of the EPMs are usually faded because they were printed differently then the rest of the Volumes #2 thru #14. They must have experimented with different types of Cover printing with the first Hardcover Volume #1 before they went to the type that they used for Volumes #2 thru #14....so the faded Gold printing of Volume#1 is quite normal.

PS: For those other newbie or Edison Collectors that don't already know, Wendell Moore's copies of the Original "Edison Phonograph Monthly" 14 Volume Series (1903-1916) are fully available to read in all their glory fully FREE and readable/downloadable at the Libraty of Congress (LOC) archive website below:

https://archive.org/details/edisonphonograph01moor

Note: If you change the "01moor" at the end of the web address to "02moor" all the way through "14moor", It will goto all 14 Complete Volumes of the "Edison Phonograph Monthly", and if you click on "PDF" under "Download Options" on the right side of the webpage, It will literally Download the entire EPM Volume to the Download section on your PC hardrive in Windows. You get the idea. Enjoy!

A brief history: The "Edison Phonograph Monthly" Reprints were a 14 Volume hardbound copied set of the Original Edison EPM's from 1903 to 1916. They were actually a private Subscription of books from Wendell Moore (the author) where each year starting from 1976 and ending in 1989, a One Volume copy of an EPM Volume was released for sale. In order to get the whole 14 Volume EPM Set, You had to be a dedicated 14 year subscriber to Wendell Moore. Wendell Moore personally hand signed ALL of the first 500 copied sets (Only all 14 Volume copies were signed if you actually kept the 14 year On Volume subscription, some people did not, that is why some sets are found with only the first 4 thru 7 Volumes for example only hand signed, and not the entire 14 Volume set.) It is thought that there was something like another 100-200 sets that were somehow leftover and went unsigned. That is also why some EPM book Volumes found today have no signature by the author on the first title page. There were only supposed to be a total of 500 or so signed sets produced, but it somehow wound up that like 600 or 700 sets were produced with 100-200 sets being left unsigned. An original Wendell Moore complete 14 Volume EPM Hardbound set today will fetch about $400.00-$550.00 on ebay or the open market with a complete signed set fetching the most, and based on book condition, etc.

Another fun fact about these is that Wendell underestimated the level of interest and didn't make enough copies of Volume II. He was printing batches, and selling them one volume at a time, not necessarily as full sets. So he had to make up a fill-in batch of Volume II, by which time the original binding style was either unavailable or too expensive. So some of us have a different style for just that book in our sets.

At the time it was a little irksome, but now I am kind of fond of it because it demonstrates Wendell's dedication to the collector community. He could have just as easily shrugged his shoulders and said "Too bad, you missed your chance."

He was a very sweet guy, extremely knowledgeable, and always had the time to talk about our hobby at length. As a new collector at the time, I was grateful for that generosity.

Tony, I think the prices have dropped a bit recently. One recently sold on ebay for ~$225, and croakinfrog had a set listed with a starting bid of $280, that no-one showed any interest in and it ended without bids. Still, this was definetely a deal.

benjaminh,

I had Originally sold that set you saw on Ebay to "Croakinfrog" - Mark Gaisser on ebay. He turned around and tried to re-sell it. All the books were in excellent shape, but it was a mismatched signed set I had put together from different numbered sets, and it was also missing Volume#3 which is the hardest to find out of all the volumes for some reason. I sold him the set about 3 years ago. 13 out of the 14 books were there, but the set#'s did not match and some books were not signed at all, but most were signed. I had also thrown in another extra book copies of Volumes#5 and #7, but he left them out of the Ebay deal when he went to resell them.

FYI, EPM Volumes #1, #2, #3 and #6 are the hardest volumes to find with volume #'s 3 and #6 being the hardest to find....and Volumes #2 and #1 following respectfully.

In my collection, I have two complete signed hardcover sets. ...out of the original 500 numbered/signed Sets.
