Not a Gilbert, but very similar. In the UK, they are very often seen on fairly low quality cabinet machines.

It is a Novaphonic Mammoth, as illustrated in this supplier's catalogue. In the UK some keen amateurs built their own gramophone cabinets from plans and fitted them with bought in components such as this.

It would be interesting to see if it actually improves sound reproduction or if it just looks cool.

That tone arm is basically an extension of the horn. making the horn longer improves low-frequency response. Probably only a minute amount in this case.

Seems a bit like the HMV 109 table model where the horn takes a bend in the case to lengthen it
