Marco, perhaps I should have been more clear. Dictation cylinders are 6" long, so you could leave them slightly longer than 4" and still have them fit on an Edison, The extra ~½" would get you extra recording time.

Can you edit the sound file down to a shorter time?

The blanks I make are 4.53 inches long.
That provides a full 2:30 playing time.

Both American cylinder blanks will run 2:30.
