Hi everyone!
I have made 2 minute cylinder recordings in the past and have now decided I would like to try to make a 4 minute recording. I am sure 4 minute recorders are very rare. So, I want to try to build my own recorder. The problem is, I don't know what a 4 minute recording stylus looks like. I was wondering if anyone here has one that they could post a picture of. Possibly Shawn Borri?
Do Dictaphones or Ediphones have 4 minute recording heads?
Can I use a diamond recording stylus used to record vinyl records?
Thanks,
-Cody

Re: What does a 4 minute cylinder recording stylus look like
There's a thread on 4 minute recording styli on the Forum that does have a couple of photos of an original. It seems to look like a 2 minute stylus, but of half the diameter.
Ediphone and Dictaphone styli are sized for 150 - 160 tpi, whereas a 4 minute cylinder is 200 tpi, but it might be possible to experiment with them.
I do not know about LP cutting styli, though.

Just to add...
Ediphone and Dictaphone run at 80rpms ....Not 160rpms like a regular 4 minute player..

The four minute cutting stylus is very similar to the two minute one, however twenty one thousandths of an inch in diameter. LP cutting stylus works.
