HI
Just tried to play a cylinder on my AA, there was a horrible noise, the handle spun like a propellor, the reproducer and horn flew off and the cylinder shattered... After I had recovered from the shock I found a small brass gear wheel had split, releasing the full force of the spring. The gear is on the end of the shaft which drives the governor (see photo). Does anyone have a complete working AA motor to sell or could you check your spares to see if you have one of these shafts ? I am in the UK so would need it posting.
Many thanks
Andrew

Re: WANTED : Columbia AA motor or part
The AA used the same motor & governor as the "Eagle", so finding a part should not be that difficult.

Check with Mark (croakingfrog on ebay) or George V. at Great Lakes Phonograph in Michigan.
I have actually had one of these intermediate gears do the same thing. I also had a feedscrew gear actually get loose and rotate on its shaft. I think these AA or B type machines were cheaply made and they are "at the age" and so they are starting to fail.
