Re: EBAY: Red Hot Henry Brown ** Reproduction Cylinder **
Most of my cylinder production was from 2000-2004 when it was my full time job, and I made 15-40 each day at that time. I made 88 in a weekend in San Juan PR. I started using ceresin wax in late 2002, and have since then purchased 350lbs of it since then with stearic acid that is 2360 lbs of phonograph compound roughly 10,704 so I guess you are right, Chuck not quite 14,000 only 10,704 at 100 grams or 11,894 for 90 grams. This does not count the production from 2000-2002 where the melzer formula was used, which is about 1,800 records and blanks that makes 13,694 blanks and records.

Alrighty then.....
The fish get bigger every time the story is told.
Pretty soon a medium sized perch is all of a sudden
a 1000-ton whale.
okey dokey...

This is a drop in the bucket to the cylinders I have made over the years. I did not have time to take pictures of every cylinder I made this will though give you a small idea that it is a pretty extensive number. How many can you count just in these photos?

I count approximately 350 in those pictures, give or
take a few.
Are you seriously saying that those 350 represent
only 2.5% of your total production so far?
That means that in order to reach the 14,000 mark,
that the entire batch shown in all of those pictures
would need to be made 40 times!!!
How old are you anyway? You'd need to be about
600 years old!

Re: EBAY: Red Hot Henry Brown ** Reproduction Cylinder **
Chuck it was not uncommon for times when the conditions were correct to make a lot of blanks in a short time. I made a 50lb block of wax previous to going to San Juan Puerto Rico for a project with Pablo Helguera. He alone has a collection of 400 cylinders I have made, for his various Conservatory of Dying Languages projects starting in 2004-current. They are located in museums all over the world. I met him while demonstrating the Phonograph in Central Park in New York City in 2003. I did not want cylinders to be broken on the airline journey so I brought a block of wax, the mould, and the shaving machine, horn and phonographs on the airline. I purchased a warmer and pan in Puerto Rico, The below cylinders were created in just two days for the Polygraphica De San Juan exhibit. And recorded upon. We started work from 7:00 one morning until about 12:00am the next and did the same the next day. Below is triple pressed stearic acid used in the 2015-2016 season , one full box used (container used for garbage ) the other shows what is left in the other box.

Great! Now we are up to about 750 of your blanks
accounted for. 350 in the first group of pictures,
then another 400 mentioned in your last post.
That now leaves only 13,250 more of them to account for.

Why does it matter how many I made and wby is it an issue? I know how many I have made based on materials purchased over 16,year period. Who has an issue, who is contesting the number? The high numbers have to do with selling them too cheaply around 2002-2003 $8.00-$10.00 a blank, and $15.00 per recording. Later $15.00 a blank, $20.00 a recording. Searic used to be $.84-1.00 a pound Considerably cheaper than it is now. Of course increasing the price slowed the amounts made.

It's just fun to note how different individuals
market their products.
Some like to talk about quantity.
Others go for quality.
Yet others go for fancy boxes and labels, and never
mention either quantity nor quality.
Everyone has their own gimmick, I guess.
All I know from personal experience is that in
order to really get it right, it takes so much time
and work that it's not even funny. If I was going to
attempt to make a vast quantity of multiple thousands
of brown wax blank cylinders, it would take up
a vast quantity of time to accomplish that task.
Now if one had a factory with workers and large
bunches of molds and large quantities of wax to cast,
then making multiple thousands would be a workable
goal to consider.
Ever notice how when a modern computer keyboard
key is held down, the last character keeps
repeating?
Like 1400 turns into 14000000000000000000000000
