P-2 Questions

Post by Zeppy »

Not sure if I posted this question on this board, a prior version of it or another board, but I thought I'd have another go at it. Anyway, attached is a picture of a case that I picked up dirt cheap on da 'bay some time ago. I have no reason to think that the case is not original. It was obviously stored in a barn for some time, bearing the requisite bird poop and all. I tried to clean it up abit, and was surprised to find it appears to be pine? Certainly not oak. I know the Ps were just thrown together with whatever was left over, and were given away as promos, but has anyone ever seen a case made of something other than oak?

Also, I was trying to figure out the motor. I originally assumed it got the same motor as the Vic-R. However, the case itself is rectangular, and appears to have two screw holes in the center of both long sides of the case, and the R motor is square, and has one screw in the center on one side, and two screws on the other. One thought I had was was there an additional frame that the motor mounted to? What did the two screws actually attach to the base. Also, there are three holes in the bottom of the case. My P-3's motor is mounted to the bottom of the case, but it has a solid piece of oak it's attached to, and the P-2 has the normal filmsy wood found on most victor products.

So I'm at a total loss as to what to do with this little guy, and what kind of parts I need to be on the prowl for. Anyone seen anything like this before?
