Re: ANOTHER WHAT IS THIS THING ?
A complete fantasy piece using modern reproduction decals on an older(?) box. There is no shellac or crazing on top of the decals, which means they were just stuck on long after the original finish was put on the box.

At $42 with two days of bidding left, I hope this doesn't get ugly.
Although, it is a pretty piece.

You'd think THIS would give the bidders a clue
:
It looks like a typical souvenir box.
This is more along the lines of what an actual Edison reproducer storage box looks like:

Interestingly, the same "Wooden Nickel" Indian logo is used for a record shop -- http://www.woodennickelrecords.com/

I am here reminded of the sage adage about a fool and money . . .phonogfp wrote:Holy smokes - the bidding is up to $42.00!![]()

Re: ANOTHER WHAT IS THIS THING ?
Well, not yet. Repro decals are pretty expensive, finished boxes are not given for free either. If someone likes this box for one reason or another, it's still fairly reasonable.
If they're bidding on it because they think it's an original item, well, that's another story of course...

Ugly ain't the word!!
I'm going to find cheap wooden cigar boxes and put either Edison, Columbia, Victor decals, etc. and start my own business.

Looks like a humidor to me. The wooden nickel is hiding the place where the little bracket holds the sponge.
