Coming soon: leather belting for Graphophones!

Post by MicaMonster »

I've just selected the new leather hides to get some 5/16" wide Graphophone belting thinned and cut. Like the cylinder leather belt I have made in the past, this will have a sharp 90*degree edge, and be straight with no curvature. Keep this in mind. I will post in the Yankee Trader when it is completed. I have about 15 feet left of the regular 7/32" belting, if anyone is interested in a piece or two for completing a machine.

Hello Wyatt,
I have a Columbia Graphophone model AB. When I play a cylinder it has a warble sound. I think it may be the belt. It has a rather narrow Edison leather belt. Can you supply the correct size for this machine?
Thanks
Pete

According to your photo, it does appear to be the rough seam of the belt rather than the belt itself. Great care should be taken when the edges are cut and made equally thinner before placed above each other.

The use of a wrong glue can also cause this. I have seen collectors using regular Elmer's or even epoxy, but only rubber cement will retain enough flexibility to avoid the warble per belt revolution. A new and wider belt would certainly not hurt either.

will contact cement doo. I have been using crazy glue with fair results. I like your belts. Nice stretch. Tom B

Yes, the belt that you have on the machine looks thick, and stiff. The belt I provide will work nicely. On that particular machine you might want to try 7/32 belting. What is the width of the pulley?
