Had been watching this Victrola 8-12X, actually with the intent to bid, taking into consideration freight costs. I was stunned when I saw that the auction ended at over $2K. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Victor-VE-8-12X ... 7675.l2557 When you click on the URL, scroll down to see the complete listing.
It was a nice machine from the pics, but again I never in my wildest imagined it would go that high. Methinks there was a p**sing match here amongst some bidders.
What say ye? Was that a bit of an overblown price?
Am I missing something here?

Re: Am I missing something here?
It appears to be a really clean example, has the electric motor, AND all the correct folders.
That said, I think it went sky-high.
Most clean 8-12s go for $600 or less, with or w/o folders.
I've watched a few items from this seller before, they are usually very nice examples of less common machines, and go for big bucks.
Looking at the bidding history, it looks like a couple bidders were "poking the bear" or just didn't know what they were doing.
My guess is the right combination of deep pockets "just had to have" this particular machine and there was a bidding war.

Over the last few years I've been involved in locating and delivering similar machines at it seems like they've been around $400 including my delivery fee. Jerry Blais

I believe that this is a prime example of setting a proxy bid before the end of the "auction". If you want anything on eBay for a reasonable price, do not place a proxy bid days ahead or someone will make sure they "max you out" on your bid...

Yikes. Well, I hope the buyer is supremely happy with their purchase! I agree with all who responded that it was a very nice example of an 8-12 -- nice fit and finish, beautiful reproducer, etc., etc., but *not* $2,000 worth of Victrola.Curt A wrote:I believe that this is a prime example of setting a proxy bid before the end of the "auction".
