I purchased a Columbia AZ cylinder machine a short while ago and am trying to catalog what parts are missing so I can get it up and running. The motor is complete with the exception of one spring and weight for the governor. I also need a speed control knob. The one piece that is most important is the piece shown in the photograph of the top of the machine. It mounts on the bottom of the carriage arm. I don't even know what it is known as (name). Can anyone help with these parts? Thanks for looking at my posting, and Merry Christmas to everyone.

Re: Part needed for Columbia AZ
Mike,
The part in your photo with the arrow is the foot or guide that mounts to the carriage sleeve. Like much of the carriage assembly, it's made of pot metal and liable to swell. As a matter of fact, it looks like the reproducer yoke is no longer engaging with the lift lever. If all these parts are still moving (not frozen), the repair is pretty simple and involves only careful sanding and possibly a bit of Dremel work.
You might want to contact one of the suppliers below to ask if they have the governor weight/springs (you should replace all three to ensure perfect balance), speed control knob, and any necessary carriage parts. Again, if the carriage is still working freely, you (or an experienced repair person) can make them functional again - even the foot/guide and the half-nut that rides inside it.
As for reputable suppliers, there are several I can recommend (in no particular order):

Ron Sitko

Telephone (518) 371-8549
(No web address. Call weeknights after 7pm Eastern.)(NOTE: Ron is on vacation until after New Year's Day)

Good luck, and Merry Christmas!

P.S.: The cabinet decal looks unusual in the placement of the "Made in U.S.A." portion. Could you kindly post a photo of the entire front of the cabinet (including the little celluloid plate at bottom right?) and provide the machine's serial number? (The first 3 digits would be fine if you'd rather not post the entire number.) Thanks - -

Re: Part needed for Columbia AZ
George, Thanks for the information. I will contact one or all of the suppliers you mentioned in hopes that they will have what I need. As far as the picture, this is not my machine. My machine is missing the "foot" completely, along with the screws to connect it. I have the half-nut which I found in the bottom of the case. The picture, I found online to show what was missing. My machine is serial #313560, and everything else slides smoothly and appears to be in good useable shape, including the reproducer. Thanks again.

Is the spring for the half-nut there as well?7309 wrote:George, Thanks for the information. I will contact one or all of the suppliers you mentioned in hopes that they will have what I need. Re: Part needed for Columbia AZ
I'm afraid not. I guess I will need a spring also. Since I've never owned a machine of this type, I will have to see if I can find a diagram of the parts??? I'll add that to the list of what is needed. Thanks Bill
