First Edison!

I'm really excited to show my first Edison Diamond disc machine!

It's a C-150 I got last month, but I've been so busy I haven't been able to make a topic till now. . . And it's now my favorite machine! I was really lucky to get it running with a good stylus. The motor is in pretty good condition. (Even though for the odd occasional thumbing, even after cleaning it I can't figure out.)

It doesn't have the pin striping, so I know it's a later model. (It really is an amazing machine, that blows my other machines away.) It's a lot better than the Edison Ultona side of my Brunswick, but the Brunswick still has the advantage of playing warped DDs a bit better. I'm really proud of it. (It is missing one thing and that's the volume control ball, but I'm not that worried about finding one.)

Since this is my first machine I tried reading every topic on them, but if anybody has any advice for a first Edison I'd really welcome it!

The number on the ID Plate is: SM85200 / The number on the motor bored is G1116


(It's going to be awhile till I add another, but I'm still hoping for a Cheney.)

Congratulations on your first Edison. I told myself one would be enough also. Somehow 3 others have followed me home I still haven't found a favorite. (Usually it's the last one that followed me home) pm me if you're looking for a mute ball. Boxes of parts also follow me home. enjoy

I'm a big fan of the C-150 too. Mine has the quietest motor on any machine I've ever owned! Mine is missing the record rack, but that's far from essential.

The motor on mine thumped occasionally until I put very thin metal washers around the spring barrel. These are usually present but get lost easily when cleaning the motor. They do make a difference!

I'm pretty sure I have a spare mute ball, the smaller size you need for a C-150. Do you need the other related parts - cable, slider, cable mount, etc. too?

I like my 150 too. Handsome machines I think and sound good. Soon you will be hearing cases of Diamond Discs calling you name.

Those are good runners Benjamin. I think you'll be very happy with it and you are right that a good Diamond Disc will put those off brands like Victor, Colombia, Silvertone etcetera to shame in terms of sound quality.

Nice Edison!! I am sure that this will be your workhorse machine to play DD records.
Please PM me if you still need the mute ball. Do you have the cable for the mute ball? I also see that your wooden handle is cracked on the lift lever. If you have trouble gluing that back together, let me know. I might also have an extra one.

Congratulations on owning a fine example. I own an Edison A250 and I replaced the diaphragm in my reproducer with a True Tone diaphragm which made a huge difference in the quality of the sound played on my Edison records. After 100 years the diaphragm in my reproducer was getting tired. DO a search on this web site if you are interested.

I have a nice complete Edison C-150 that needs wood refinishing. The original Dark Mahogany Stain has literally turned Black as night and is all checkered. I have to strip it and redo the whole thing. It's the only Phonograph that I have to restore in my whole collection..I'm just looking for the time to do it someday.. I bought all the supplies a few years ago. )
