How about a photo showing the overall view of the front? Can't really figure what the cabinet looks like from the shots you've posted.

It looks like a home made case, but well done. The carriage seems to be a later one, possibly an upgrade. Also, the same with the mandrel. It should be brass with a recessed end. Just my observations.
