Another Period Article on the APS Web Site

Post by phonogfp »

I really should have been doing another chore this afternoon, but decided to scan and post an interesting article to the APS web site. This one appeared in the January 1890 issue of Scribner's Magazine, and is titled, "Electricity in the Household." Written by A.E. Kennelly (Chief Electrician at Edison's Laboratory), it describes how electricity would someday power all sorts of household appliances - including phonographs. There are several illustrations, two of which depict Edison Class E Phonographs connected to mains current and being enjoyed in the home. It's a pretty interesting article.

APS members can read it on the web site:

Click on the "Articles" tab, then go to "Period Articles" on the dropdown menu. Enjoy! :)

Thank you for taking the time to post this article George. It was fascinating to read Mr. Kennelly description of life in the future. What foresight he had. It is funny that today we take all of these things for granted but yet when many of our grand parents were born none of them existed. How fast times change.

Thanks George, and the APS for the new category of articles.

This will be an interesting venue to feature (I assume) many additional writers than could ever be fit into the Journal.

Best,

Plus, Mr. Kennelly is no longer available to write for the journal! ;)
