What type of container do you like for 10" record storage?

Post by CMcPherson »

I have just received my supply of HDPE record sleeves.
I have some boxes that I will use temporarily but they are too big.
Is there a particular record box or other container that you like to use that are sized well for 10" records
I want to be able to flip through my records.

There are multiple threads on the board discussing record storage and shelving. A board search will find them quickly.

 You "use the search" guys always make me laugh.
I know how to use the search feature. AND I USE IT. The fact is, opinions and options change.
So if I have a question pertaining to collecting early 20th century music, I'm going to ask.
In the time that it takes to remind people of the search feature, you could have actually offered a solution. ;)

I did.

A very similar question to yours was asked as recently as yesterday. There's not much point in re-re-re-re-creating new threads on topics that have been discussed over and over again.

Since you know your question is similar to ones asked earlier, instead of asking the question on a new thread, why not add a new post to your favorite comprehensive, existing thread and ask if anyone has tried anything else new since the last post? That will help keep everything organized and found more easily by future posters. It will also call attention to the old thread and get more people interested in the topic.

Just my 1.99999 cents of course.

Back to the original question:
Plastic milk crates work well for me. When I find them cheaply at flea markets I pick them up. I've even pulled over off the road to snag one occasionally!
They work best with 10" records in sleeves. Without sleeves, the plastic bottoms will sag if these are stacked.
I have sturdy shelf units with crates positioned on their sides, and that works well for me. Plus, you can pull individual crates out if needed.

Here's one I don't think anyone has mentioned: Milk crates.

Ah yes... very helpful idea, thank you!
I'd imagine that when my collection grows to thousands of records shelving would be better but for now, smaller containers is what I had in mind and crates would be just fine.

I used them when I did record shows- they're great! Still have quite a few with my "rejects" stored in them. Leave a little room at the front and you can flip through easily. They're easy to move, too, with the handles. Watch your back. :)

Yes, I want to flip through them like I do at the record store otherwise I'd build shelving.

I like barnettrp21122's solution to the problem.
What are the units that the milk crates are in?
