Finished with my VV-IV

I finally finished my 1916 VV-IV today and thought I would share some pictures. Im pretty sure that the finish is original. It had some darkening and alligatoring when I got it but, not too bad. The 4 screws that hold the motor board down were buried very deep on the wood and there was barely any wood holding the screws at the taper. I installed wooden dowels in those holes, re-drilled,and stained/finished to match the surrounding wood. I used some natural Howards Restor-a-Finish and 0000 steel wool to save the original varnish. I followed up with some Johnsons paste wax. I disassembled the motor, cleaned , lubed, and adjusted it, and it runs great. Installed new felt on the platter, polished the tone arm, and rebuilt the Exhibition reproducer. restored the name plate which had been overly polished at one time with none of the black background remaining. The crank had been painted. I stripped it and found it to be rusty. Once I polished the bare metal (plating was gone), I sprayed it with clear lacquer. Some will scarf at my methods but, its not a valuable machine. I tried to keep it as original as possible without investing a lot of money. Ive got around $175.00 in it which is about what its worth. So, here it is.

Me too! The VV-IV, VV-VI, Columbia B Eagle and Q all do perfect at that...the VV-VIII almost fits in that category.

If you like small bookshelf machines try to find an Ecco - they're a tough little machine to find.

Looks great. Here my same question like in your VV-IX thread: Does it have an Exhibition reproducer, or the European Exposition clone as you stated?
