CL - Huge Auction in Chicago Feb 7

Post by CDBPDX »

On Feb 7, there is going to be a huge auction in Chicago featuring several phonographs. Might want to check that out.

I live nearby; as soon as I heard I went and had a look. Very disappointing. Was an accumulation by an old man. The "best" machine is a Columbia coin-op.....missing it's motor, coin-op mechanism, etc. It's just a case with a top works. The Opera is oak, refinished (badly), no horn or gear cover. Lots of dirty Homes and Standards. A few common Victors. Some common radios and typewriters too. A number of uprights with water damage. Most of it was stored in the basement.

Sounds like my kind of sale, a chance to pick up a bunch of fixer-uppers at a cheap price. Too bad I'm over 2000 miles away...

Did anyone from the forum go? What was it like and how were prices? Which I was there as they had a couple thousand cylinders.

My cousin went and sent me pictures. I believe he put in absent bids, so I am not sure about the prices yet. There were tons of cylinder records, and Edison machines. If he gets any I will update on what the prices were.

Some nice looking horns there. You could run the slot machine as you listen to cylinders The guy must have been collecting for a while but did not store them correctly to prevent the water damage... Tom B
