What did I do wrong

Post by Talkophone »

The person I PM was interested in the item that is why I got in touch with him. I just thought it was uncalled for the way it ended up. I thought we are suppose to help each other. This is PM's that was send back and forth. Only named mention was mine.

At one time you said that you would be interested in a nice Fireside Model that I had. I'm ready to sell it now. Since you mentioned the interest I have upgraded to a Model O reproducer. It has no lid. If you want to see some pictures I can email then you can make me a fair offer. Even you aren't interested if possible give me a price what you think it is worth.

Larry

Thank you for reaching out to me. Do send me some pictures. I'd like to see the machine. To place a value, it would be benificial to understand what is and is not original. I understand there is no lid.

Thank you

Not possible for you to see machine.I will just have to come up with a price and put it on the forum. I just decided to sell it yesterday. I don't go to union any more. Thank You for your time.

Larry

Thanks Larry. No need to reach out to me again, ever. (This is his last PM to me.)

I think the person communicating with you was asking to see pictures but used too many periods.
Thank you for reaching out to me. Do send me some pictures. I'd like to see the machine.
Should have probably read
Thank you for reaching out to me. Do send me some pictures, I'd like to see the machine.
Then your response sounded like you didn't want to send pictures and then you basically ended communication
by telling him/her you would be listing it in the trader section (no longer giving them first option)

That may have upset him/her?

PS. I really have no real idea what he/she was thinking - all speculation of course.

Looks pretty obvious to me. He wanted to take a look at it. You told him it was not possible and shut him down by saying you would price it and list it for sale. You reached out to him. I think he responded appropriately.

Is that copied and pasted from his original message? I see DO send me some pictures. (Unless you retyped it and left the n't off.)

At my age it sometimes takes a while to sink in, and I have to go over material several times. It looks like it was some what of miscommunications between both of you. I take it he wanted pictures and what was reproduction parts on the machine to price it. It was not spelled out well. Then again I am now happy every morning I now get up and see life, nature, goodness and my phonographs. life is too short to get mad over some things. Tom B

Cell phone calls are essentially free now, at least domestically. If you really want to buy something, or really want to sell something, take the leap and get on the phone with the other person. Give your number and ask for theirs.

Think about it...you're trusting valuable goods, or valuable money, to a stranger (or perhaps a vague prior acquaintance). Why not make everyone a bit more comfortable by assuring clarity? And who knows, maybe you both make a new friend.

Looks to me like a simple misunderstanding and nothing more. Nobody is a bad guy here. I'd suggest you send the photos. If the party wants it and is going to Union, I'll take it to them personally and everyone will be happy. Jerry Blais

Slow down before you hit send and actually read what people say. That solves a lot of problems.
